One Sixth Figure Focus Takes a Close Look at Our Final-Production Catwoman
One Sixth Figure Focus examines Filly Zepeda’s in-hand photographs of our final-production 1992 Catwoman—and discusses how the finished figure is changing collectors’ minds.
Filly also offers a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at his work. He explains how he combines faithful recreations of scenes from Batman Returns with original compositions that imagine moments not shown in the movie—such as Catwoman encountering the 1989 Batmobile.
To photograph the black suit properly, Filly adjusted his usual dark, atmospheric style and developed a brighter, softer lighting setup. By using diffused light, larger light sources and reflected illumination, he was able to reveal the figure’s details without introducing distracting highlights. Joost provided feedback throughout the process, encouraging Filly to present Catwoman not only cinematically, but also clearly as a production collectible by recreating the lighting as it would have been done on set with large diffusers and gobos to bring out the details in the skin texture and paint of the figure.
The results speak for themselves. From subtle character poses to extreme displays of balance and flexibility, the photographs demonstrate why developing a custom seamless body was essential. As the panel notes, Catwoman can recreate the distinctive poses associated with Michelle Pfeiffer’s performance without exposed joints interrupting her natural silhouette.
Filly also discusses what the character means to him personally. Having first seen Batman Returns with his sister as a child, he had been waiting many years for a sixth-scale Catwoman of this ambition. He describes the engineering challenge behind the figure and firmly rejects the idea that Catwoman was the wrong choice for Jazzinc’s first fully developed figure.
A huge thank-you to Shane from One Sixth Figure Focus for devoting such a substantial part of the livestream to our Catwoman. Thank you as well to Mandy, Matt, Pete, Ben and the other contributors for sharing their candid impressions, and, of course, to Filly Zepeda for joining the conversation and creating the remarkable photographs that inspired it.
